Current Clinton County Jail & Judicial Areas

Clinton County Jail:

  • The Jail can hold 32 detainees and is regularly full, with extra detainees being housed in other Counties at Clinton County’s expense

  • The Booking & Intake area, one of the busiest parts of the jail, is extremely crowded despite regularly holding large groups of detainees and staff

  • The Kitchen & Laundry are in both in one small room, outfitted with residential equipment that is not adequate to serve the facility

  • Building systems, like plumbing and HVAC, regularly fail and are extremely difficult to access for repairs

Clinton County Judicial Areas:

  • Clinton County currently has a large and a small courtroom

  • Neither space can accommodate jury selection

  • The jury deliberation room, jury restrooms, jury box, and both judges’ benches are not ADA-compliant

Proposed Clinton County Justice Center

The proposed Clinton County Justice Center project would include:

  • Adding a new detention center with 56 beds next to the current Courthouse

  • Support services for the new detention center, including kitchen, laundry, booking, and medical spaces

  • Renovating the judicial areas of the Courthouse to create two courtrooms that can better meet Clinton County’s needs

  • Moving the County Clerk, County Recorder, and County Prosecutor to make room for the larger courtrooms, giving these offices much-needed space

  • ADA-compliance throughout the public areas of the Courthouse, including in the jury spaces and public restrooms

  • A long-term, comprehensive plan for the Clinton County Courthouse that sets the community up for success

“This important initiative represents a forward-thinking investment in the safety, efficiency, and long-term stability of our community.”

— Rusty Black, Missouri State Senator, District 12
